We’ve been dreaming of someday visiting the Field of Dreams movie set in Dyersville, Iowa. Well today was that day!!!
Driving to the field takes you off the main highway through back roads of corn fields upon corn fields. In your mind you see the car lights on the last scene of the movie while making your way there. When we finally make the turn onto Lansing Ave I literally got chills, there it is!
There’s a sign on the driveway “Original Field of Dreams”, we suppose maybe there’s a fake one somewhere? No charge to visit they only ask for a donation, which we graciously obliged. The donation sign we loved, I had to take a picture of it before we left.
Upon getting out of our car right away we noticed an older gentleman on the field dressed in the old Sox uniform pitching to anyone who wanted to hit which was pretty cool. Had some conversation with him and he explained that the Lansing Family Farm did not keep the whole field after the movie, that they only kept the infield. People were trespassing on their property just to get a glimpse of the field so they eventually decided to build the full field back. He had some great stories to tell, the best one is that we learned he was an extra in the original film, also pretty cool. Mike was able to capture a picture of me on the bleachers with him.
There weren’t many people there, however we just missed a tour bus that was pulling out when we drove in, lucky us!
The house looks exactly the same and so does the field. The only downside was that the corn in the outfield will not be grown to normal height until July, so we didn’t get to walk into the cornfields. The home is available to rent for overnight stays and can house up to 7 people, they also have tours of the home for a charge, we opted not to take the tour because we were more interested in the field aspect.

There is a small indoor cafeteria/store that sells hotdogs, hamburgers, chips, soda, beer, etc. We enjoyed lunch, a hot dog, because why not when will this happen again.
They are in the process of building a full complex to host young player tournaments and expected to be completed in 2025. There’s a Major League field on site but was off limits to visitors because of the construction. In the past they hosted an MLB game but this year they will not be hosting a game because of the construction. We hope to visit again after the complex is completed. Before leaving we stopped in the store which is run by Baseballism to buy a few souvenirs.
We had scheduled an overnight stop in Cedar Rapids after our visit to the Field of Dreams to keep our driving to a minimum. The week before our arrival Michael found out he had to be in Cedar Rapids for work a few days so we were excited to spend the night with him having dinner and visiting a few breweries.
Off to St. Louis the next morning for 4 nights, but will not arrive until late afternoon.
