The “Hot” Desert

We left California about a week before the Hurricane made landfall, we were lucky enough to have had beautiful weather in California while we visited there.

Our first day of travel took us to Yuma, AZ just a quick overnight stay on our way to Maricopa, AZ.  When we arrived in Yuma the temperature was much different there 114 degrees!  Over the next 4-5 days the temperatures everyday were well over 100.  People say it’s a dry heat, but my gosh it hit you in the face like opening an oven door!

Spent relaxing few days at AK Chin Hotel & Casino in Maricopa.  We rented a bed by the pool for a few days and just enjoyed some pool and casino time.  No touristy things on the schedule here just needed some relaxing time because prior to arriving we were on the move for almost a month.

The next couple days we spent in Phoenix, AZ.  The first night we decided to take in a concert since we haven’t been to one all summer.  It was an outdoor venue pretty similar to Camden Waterfront.

The second night in Phoenix was game night.  We were lucky enough again to stay at a hotel where we could walk to the ballpark.  Chase Field is a dome building and the roof was closed and the field was pretty dark even with the lights on, the locals call it the dungeon.  The game went extra innings with Diamonds out on top!

After the game we were lucky enough to go on to the field and talk with Zac Gallen.  We saw Zac and the Diamondbacks play in San Francisco but couldn’t catch up there because he was pitching that game.  Zac is also another Tri State Arsenal player that we know from New Jersey.  We really enjoyed catching up with him, we haven’t seen him in a few years.

We decided a few weeks prior to arriving in Arizona that we were going to cut our trip short about 10 days.  The day after the game we headed east on a 6-day drive back to New Jersey.  Once we made our minds up to start the drive home we were ready.  We were two stadiums short that was on our schedule both in Texas but we agreed we would take a trip there another time because we wanted to do so much and couldn’t cover it before coming home for an early September wedding.
