After the night Dodger’s baseball game we set out for San Juan Capistrano for a few days.
The next day we toured the town of San Juan Capistrano. It is an old small town of Spanish influences with a few shops, eateries and historical buildings.
The Mission San Juan Capistrano is an historic landmark right in the center of town. Founded more then 200 years ago by the Spanish to teach Catholicism. After it was abandoned, It was sold many years after to a family and became a ranch, however a bishop petitioned to have it returned to the Catholic Church and granted. The buildings now function as a museum however, they still have church services available to those who want to attend.

San Juan Capistrano is also known for the miracle of the swallows. Each year on St. Joseph’s Day(March19th) the swallows migrate 6,000 miles from Argentina to San Juan Capistrano in large groups. This has been a tradition and visited by many for over 90 years!
We enjoyed a tasty lunch of enchiladas and tacos right in town at a Mexican restaurant inside a building that was nearly 110 years old. The Mexican/Spanish décor and structures and architecture throughout this town were so beautiful.

Since we had a short drive to San Diego the next morning, we enjoyed the afternoon at Delmar Race track on the way. First a stop at Viewpoint Brewing, which sat across the street from the track, for a small bite to eat because post time wasn’t until 2pm. Neither of us had much luck with ponies this day! It was a Friday and the races were very well attended, we really enjoyed the atmosphere because it felt like we were at a derby.
