We have now been on the road for about 10 weeks and we have had nearly perfect weather the whole time, which is incredible.
Drove in from Napa over the Golden Gate Bridge, which isn’t gold at all, too funny! First stop was the Ferry Building Market Place, a small market with multiple vendors and eateries. We all purchased some sweets and breads from the small bakery, delicious! Fort Point Beer Co right in the market as well for the gentleman to enjoy a cold brew! Quick bit at Gott’s Roadside restaurant before we checked into our hotel near Fisherman’s Wharf.

In San Francisco most days started off cloudy and windy but ended with sun. It was pretty neat to watch the clouds roll over the mountains daily, what an amazing site. I tried to get a good photo of the Golden Gate Bridge but majority of the time it was cloud/fog covered all day long.
That evening was game night at Oracle Park, the place Mike has been dying to go! Really nice ballpark with plenty to see. This night was even more special for us because it was the first time we were able to see Zac Gallen from Arizona pitch live. Zac was a long time Tri State Arsenal player, and Mike even coached him his first year with us! Of course, we couldn’t talk with him since he was pitching that evening but we did watch him warm up in the bullpen.

Our next full day in San Francisco was spent enjoying the city by walking and then by cable car. We walked to Fisherman’s Wharf then up to Ghirardelli Square. Enjoyed lunch of Cream of Crab Soup & Clam Chowder in sourdough bowls at famous Boudin Sourdough Bakery. After lunch we took a walk down to Pier 39 to do some shopping and site seeing.

We had a few blocks to walk to take a ride on the cable car to the Market area in downtown, so much fun!!! We met a group of tourists that were Cowboy, Saints and Pittsburgh fans we had some good and funny conversations with them while waiting for our cable car to arrive. After touring downtown we traveled by cable car once again to Lombard Street (zigzag street). Exited the cable car at the top and walked down Lombard to the street below. There are so many hilly streets in San Francisco so you can imagine how crazy it felt to ride a cable car through the streets.

The following day, Mare and Jim’s last day with us, we decided to relax a little in the morning then back over the Golden Gate Bridge into Sausalito before our timed ticket entry into Muir Woods National Park in the afternoon. Sausalito really didn’t have a lot to do or see but we did have time to enjoy lunch at the Crab House. Mike and Lorraine shared a 2plus pound delicious Dungeness crab, skillet mussels and sour dough bread.

After lunch off to Muir Woods which was absolutely amazing. We walked the trail through the woods and noticed that everything below was so green with no flowering plants. The redwood trees were so large that some of them stood upwards near 200-300 feet. If you ever get a chance to see these amazing beautiful redwood trees, please do, it’s such an experience.

On our way back into town we made a quick pitstop at the “Painted Ladies”. Just being there on that street made me feel like I was a younger again.

The next morning, which was our last full day in San Francisco, Mare and Jim returned back to New Jersey on an early flight, sad to see them go but we had an amazing two weeks traveling the coast with them. We relaxed a bit in the morning then rode the cable car to Chinatown for lunch. Our lunch spot was House of Nanking where they filmed Keanu Reeves walking out of in one of the Matrix movies, we aren’t sure which one because neither of us has seen any of those movies. After lunch walked our way back to our hotel which was a pretty far distance. The walking took us through Chinatown, Little Italy/North Beach neighborhoods before reaching the Fisherman’s Wharf area.

That evening we took a quick walk back to Fisherman’s Wharf one last time to enjoy some beignets and do a little shopping. Afterwards back to our hotel to relax the rest of the evening to prepare for our 7 hours drive to Garden Grove/Anaheim/Los Angeles area the following day, one of our longest drives in weeks.
