Utah to Idaho!

We had an overnight stop in WY on our way to Salt Lake City, UT from Rapid City, SD because it was a long drive straight through.  The following day we arrived in Salt Lake City and decided to just relax by the pool for most of the afternoon.  We then took in a local brewery before dinner, Uinta Brewery then back to our hotel bar for drinks and dinner. The top 2 pictures were mountains on our drive to Utah, they looked like paintings!

Day 2 – We visited Park City, UT – 30 minutes outside Salt Lake.  Park City is a beautiful ski resort town with a Main St, many shops and restaurants line this street.  This particular day Main Street was very crowded, we assumed because it was a holiday weekend.  We had lunch at a small pizza place right in town known for their thin-crust pizza and it was delicious!  On our drive back we ventured up a mountain to Olympic Park and Training Center where some of the games for the 2002 Winter Olympics were held. We stopped off at a lookout to take in the views of the ski-jump ramp and it was also a beautiful view towards the city below!

Our next stop – Twin Falls, ID.  Since this was a shorter drive, we had time to do some touristy things before checking into our hotel.  We went straight to Shoshone Falls known as the Niagara Falls of the West.  The Shoshone Falls is located on the Snake River which is a deep river that winds through Idaho.  What an amazing view, we even captured a rainbow over the bottom of the falls.

Day 2 – July 4th!  In the morning we made our way to another waterfall, Twin Falls Waterfall in Kimberly.  Much smaller waterfall but still impressive!  Then off to Evel Knievel jump site of the Snake River.  The ramp he used is still stands with a small plaque that describes the jump.  In 1974 Evel tried to jump the Snake River canyon, however he failed because his parachute deployed too soon after take-off.  We made our way through the canyon walking trail and were able to catch a glimpse of Shoshone Falls from afar, still amazing!

After our morning travels we went into a small town, Buhl, for a July 4th celebration in the park.  There were many food offerings, vendors selling many different items and live music in the large park.  We even saw a large tortoise walking around!  We enjoyed the afternoon taking in the scene, eating lunch and having a few drinks.  Later that evening Lorraine cooked a steak dinner at our hotel for the 4th, perfect day!

The next morning, we drove to Boise, ID for a one night stay on our way to Washington.  Low key day, arrived early since being less then 2-hour drive.  First stop was Hyde Park, reminded us of Haddonfield but much, much smaller.  The main street was only 3 blocks long with a few shops and restaurants.  Then off to Boise Brewing Company, for Mike to take in some local brews.  Lorraine has wanted to try Del Taco so we stopped for a quick small lunch before check-in.  We took in some sun by the pool in the afternoon then off to a family-owned Italian Restaurant for dinner, Luciano’s (very good)!
